The cleavage cooperation – conflict in the ABC Treaty 1915 and the incidence of the ideological context in the argentinian leaders of the Centenary

Abstract

On the 1st of May 1915 Argentina, Brazil and Chile, signed the Agreement ABCtrying to give to the relations in the South Cone a climate of understanding and agreement to solve the common problems that they had. Although the Agreement was not ratified and therefore it did not have direct effects, it has been constituted in one of the most interesting topics in the international regional relations. The Agreement ABC is the result of diverse forces of cooperation and conflict between the three countries at the ends of the XIXth century and the beginning of the XXth century. Other factors that affect in the conjuncture of the epoch are the following ones: the relations with the United States, the territorial disputes between Argentina and Brazil, on the one hand, and Argentina and Chile, on the other; and the political, diplomatic and geopolitical rivalries between they and the rest of the countries of South America, also the prevailing climate of ideas in the Argentine leaders of the Centenary.
